PoINT ARCHIVAL GATEWAY
the point of safety
PoINT Archival Gateway is a tape-based object storage solution that receives data via the standardized S3 interface and writes it directly to tape. The solution offers a high-performance and secure storage option for many use cases and large data volumes. PoINT Archival Gateway provides the established S3 interface standardized by AWS. This provides an API that allows applications to take tape-specific properties, such as longer access times, into account. This enables a homogeneous integration of tape storage systems into the existing data center infrastructure.
PoINT Archival Gateway can be operated as a multi-node cluster configuration (Enterprise Edition) or, for smaller environments, installed on a single server (Compact Edition). Both deployments are also possible as geo-distributed cluster.

PoINT Archival Gateway ENTERPRISE

PoINT Archival Gateway COMPACT
Scaleable
PoINT Archival Gateway is highly scalable and offers redundancy at the system and data levels. The internal interface nodes cooperate with each other (e.g., for load balancing). The database nodes offer synchronous replication and failover. The flexibly selectable erasure coding methods ensure the protection of the stored data.
Single Namespace
For both tape-only and disk and tape storage class configurations, PoINT Archival Gateway provides single namespace access to all stored data.
On-Prem Glacier
Disk and tape storage systems can be integrated and configured as S3-compatible storage classes, enabling an on-premises Glacier configuration in your own data center.
S3 Standard
and S3 Glacier including lifecycle policies
PoINT Archival Gateway is S3-compatible and also supports the S3 Glacier API, including lifecycle policies. Based on defined rules, data can be moved between disk and tape storage classes.
Tape Support
PoINT Archival Gateway supports all commercially available tape libraries for LTO and IBM 3592. This eliminates the need for proprietary hardware solutions with long-term dependencies and unpredictable support costs. Library replacement is possible at any time without interrupting operations. Tape support also includes offline management, space reclamation, integrity testing, and media migration.
Tape Only
In the tape-only configuration, tape-specific applications can write data directly to and read data from the media. Disk caches are not required, thus achieving extremely effective and high-performance tape integration..

To optimize the ORION S3, BDT Media Automation GmbH has entered into a strategic technology partnership with PoINT Software & Systems GmbH. This creates an optimal connection between software and hardware. BDT – PoINT – COMBACK – a strong partnership for the future of tape.
