A library of a special kind
The ORION was developed together with customers for use in upper medium-sized data centers, hyperscalers, enterprise companies and scientific institutions. For the fast and reliable storage of large amounts of data.
Scalable
Thanks to its modular structure, the ORION is easily scalable. Due to its nature, it can be flexibly configured for every application. Regardless of whether it is more tape slots or more drives. In conjunction with the S3 appliance, several ORION systems can be combined into a library. There are several thousand tape slots available.

Thanks to BDT’s high quality standards, ORION is one of the most reliable tape libraries on the market. Permanent and ongoing endurance testing ensures one of the highest quality standards for tape libraries. If parts do need to be replaced, this can be done in just a few minutes. Due to its design, all parts of the ORION can be quickly replaced.

One of the greatest strengths of tape libraries is their cost effectiveness. Compared to other storage media, tapes offer unbeatable value for money per terabyte. The ORION provides excellent value for money per terabyte. Special maintenance models further enhance cost efficiency.
ORION MC6
The ORION MC6 is designed for large amounts of data in a rack. In its basic configuration, it holds up to 1,115 tapes with up to 3 LTO-FH drives. If more drives are needed, there is the ORION MC6 with 1,052 tape slots and 24 LTO-FH drives. Other configurations are of course possible. Depending on the application, more drives or more tape slots can be configured.

ORION S3
The ORION S3 already comes with an integrated S3-to-tape gateway in the form of an S3 appliance. The appliance is housed directly in the library rack. The appliance is equipped with a PoINT Archival Gateway, a corresponding server and the necessary storage cache. The ORION S3 starts with 974 tape slots and 3 LTO-FH drives or with 920 tape slots and 21 LTO-FH drives. Other configurations are of course possible. Special features of the ORION S3
IIn the ORION S3, the first 6 height units are left free for the installation of the S3 appliances. The libraries are delivered complete with the installed and preconfigured S3-to-Tape Gateway through our Axians logistics center. The standardized S3 interface allows data to be written to tape quickly and easily. The ORION can be scaled to up to 8 tape libraries with the S3 Gateway. This means that more than 8,500 tape storage spaces can be served. The PoINT Archival Gateway Appliances are manufactured by our partners Boston-Server and RNT.
In order to optimize the ORION S3, BDT Media Automation GmbH has entered into a strategic technology partnership with PoINT Software & Systems GmbH. This creates an optimal connection between software and hardware. BDT – PoINT – COMBACK – a strong partnership for the future of tape.
